Let me scavenge a memory from my recent past, all the way Back in 2015 Yours Drewly, was part of the American Bookseller Association Indies Introduce New Voices panel. The panel and I surveyed over 40 debut author advanced reader books (books before they are published)! The one that I loved most by far was Bertman's debut story aptly named Book Scavenger!
When the panel was done and Book Scavenger won unanimously and was picked a top ten finalist, I somehow got the chance to call her. I left a bewildered and amazed message on her voicemail. When she called me back I about lost it with joy.

I don't remember much about the content of the conversation just the special context and the awesome memories of that time and panel. That panel was full of interesting conversations about 43 books that haven't had much "staying of shelves power", only Book Scavenger and a little soap opera book called Everything Everything came out worthy of reading after the panel. Weeks of reading and one book was worthy of my time. Weird! The book also marked a turn around in my personal view on life, and I have been a more enthusiastic Book Scavenger (in my case bookseller) ever since.
Proof I was on the panel (though at a different bookstore) is here.
In the four years since or 209 weeks, I have hand sold nearly 1350 Book Scavenger books from the series personally, hosted Jennifer Bertman twice at Books Inc and directly and indirectly have brought countless families into the Book Scavenger World, though its website, its game, and the three books.
You never know the power of personal influence on others! My enthusiasm for the series has even impacted my work towards other books, and above all has kept me in my calling as a Children’s Specialist bookseller since I first read book one of Book Scavenger 49 months ago!!
To celebrate the series and more, please come to Books Inc Palo Alto’s Book Scavenger birthday party on Sunday June 9th at 2:30!
There will be Trivia, Book Cover Bingo, Pin the cowlick on James, scavenger hunt, prizes galore and a social media\selfie station and more!!
